Many smaller races in Norway. I have been racing kayaks since 2001.
I have also been doing week long touring trips along the Southern coastline of Norway. We also did a 4 day's trip at Svalbard some years ago.
I have been padling Seakayaks, touring racing kayaks (Danish type), multisport kayaks and lately surfskiis.
Racing since 2001.
Normally I represent my local club (Arendal Kayak Club) in races, but this year we created Ravenwater Kayak Racing for the YRQ 2019.
Race smart, no big mistakes and finish on a good time. Experience the wilderness and hopefully see some wildlife. Meet new interesting people and create memories.
I think the YRQ looks like the perfect combination of kayak racing and expedition padling. Not to forget the amazing nature of Canada wilderness. I'm up for the Challenge. Live life and follow my dreams.

I love the great outdoors and do many sports including rock and ice climbing, kayaking, kite boarding and some mountaineering however I have next to no canoe experience. I love adventure and I am very excited about this one.
My goals for this trip are to learn about my self, experience the north and of course have fun.
I have seen most of Canada and can't imagine a more unique way to experience the Yukon.

I've been going to a gym for years, and I'm going to run twice a week to trudge my audiences. I regularly participate in the half marathon with the running group. Walks, climbing, larger bike rides and skiing I spread throughout the year. In addition, I train with a dragon boat team all year and participate in many competitions and long distance races.
I think we can do the race in a good time. Since we have been preparing as a team for months and during winter.
I would like to take part in this race because it is a new sporting challenge.
Age: 33
Sex: F
From: Cottbus, Brandenburg, Germany | Deutschland
For 10 years I have actively been practicing strength training in a gym and five years ago I discovered the love to run. I really like smaller sprints and do 10 kilometers of runs in a very good time. My next goal is in 2019 the half marathon in Berlin. At the beginning of 2018, I discovered the passion for dragon boat racing and paddling at distances of up to 50 kilometers over smaller lakes with my team. With my boat club "HaiVoltage" I already took part in several competitions throughout the year. My training sessions in paddling are twice a week. My next goal is to take part in the German championship in the dragon boat and for this I already start an additional paddle training.
In June 2018 I became aware of this race by a runner and made myself first on this race on the Internet and in the circle of acquaintances. I am especially attracted by the nature in Canada as well as the greater distance over the Yukon River. I would like to use my skills and gain new sporting experiences in paddling with my colleagues.
First and foremost I want to finish well with my team members. Of course, my goal is also to create a good time and perhaps to look for new challenges.
Age: 50
Sex: F
From: Cottbus, Brandenburg, Germany | Deutschland
For 20 years I train 2 to 3 times a week regularly in a gym. I have been in a running team for about 5 years. I often walk distances of 10 to 15 kilometers as well as half marathon. My other sporting activities include hiking, climbing, cycling and skiing. Since the year 2010 I have been able to gain experience paddling especially in the dragon boat. In a dragon boat club I take part in several competitions in the year.
I would like to reach the race with my boat team within the time limit.
In 2017, team members from my dragon boat club "Hai Voltage" successfully participated in the Yukon River Quest and enthusiastically shared their experiences during the race. That's why my ambition was raised to meet this challenge.

For 15 years, I go to a gym four times a week and keep fit with strength and endurance training. I especially like running at endurance training and cycling. I have been collecting paddling experience for 3 years during the dragon boat training.
Arrive with my team at the finish and win many beautiful memories.
I heard about this race from a colleague in our paddle team and really wanted to experience it. The beautiful landscape, the sporting challenge and the adventure.

To have a great time with my teammates, to finish the race in time with a smile and finally, extend some limits. I've never finished a marathon, not even began one.
I've never left beautiful Europe, so it's my first time that far from home. I love the nature and I'll hopefully see a moose that takes up our pace.

Since my earliest youth, I do intensive sports. For the first time in the sports school section gymnastics, later then various sports such as cycling and various endurance sports. In my youth, I achieved several awards in various sports.
Furthermore, I visit regularly for many years a gym. For about 8 years I do the canoe or dragon boat sport.
My interest in the YRQ was aroused by team members have already mastered this challenge. My own Interest is not only the sporting challenge but also the unique nature experience.
In the foreground the athletic challenge remains the YRQ to create and achieve a personal goal.

Retired British Army Infantry Officer. Which means more than a little wilderness experience. Paddleboarding however has been more of an ex-army endeavour; keeping up the spirit of adventure, physical challenge and love of the great outdoors. Multiple long-distance expeditions around the rivers, lakes and oceans of the UK and Europe, now ready and raring to take on the Yukon.

I hope to paddle every hour but for the 10 required rest hours, and post a finish in the 45-50 hour timeframe. I also hope to survive the ordeal.
I love endurance racing and being in the wilderness. I found the Yukon River beautiful and the history inspiring last summer during a paddle from Bennett to Dawson City. I want to spend more time there and help to popularize healthy eco-tourism in the area.

A few shorter canoe races, both tandem and solo.
Led a group of Scout's around Bowron Lakes, and then a group of 3 friends doing the trip in half the time of the previous year.
Numerous hikes both with Scouts and on my own, including an 85 mile hike around the Wonderland trail.
To finish in under 55 hours, in the same canoe as my partner, and still as friends.

To race as strong as I can and to experience the beauty of the Yukon River. I’m looking forward to meeting all the racers and hearing their stories!
Seeing my friends Peter Allen, Carmen Merkel, Jason Bennett and Norm Hann paddle this race in the past on SUP was truly inspiring. It is a race I never would have dreamt of attempting but their stoke and the support of my local SUP community has spurred me on to prepare for this challenge. I’ll be doing this race in the hopes my kids will look back and say, ‘wow my mum is a strong/tough woman!’ and also hope to inspire other mums and woman to reach for something they think is impossible to them- YOU CAN DO IT. I’ll also be doing the YRQ for my mum, Catherine, we lost her in December to cancer she’ll be with me every paddle stroke.

Decades of low key marathon canoe racing in mid-west/east-coast. But I've been picking up the pace as I approach senior citizen status.
Enjoy the experience, finish strong, win, and all of that stuff, but really I just want to finish ahead of Steve Miller, but don't tell him that.
Last year Steve Miller finished before me so my reason for entering this race, my 2019 Yukon River Quest, is to paddle bow.

I volunteered and supported Strokes of Genius at the YRQ in 2018 so have some knowledge of the race. I have many years experience in back-country canoe tripping mostly in Algonquin provincial park, involving orienteering with map and compass. Many of these trips were completed solo. In 2018 I completed an unsupported solo rim2rim2rim run of the grand canyon (75 km, 10,000 vertical feet) in under 24 hours. This summer I participated in a number of C2 marathon canoe races with Michael De Abreu (Strokes of Genius). I have extensive experience with cold weather and cold water conditions, both flat water and rapids, and am an avid whitewater kayaker, paddling well into the late fall and early spring.

Intrigued with the limits of human endurance, the people who test those limits and succeed in defying those limits. I am coming to test my own limits in a place where everything in unfamiliar.....even my boat haha

I have taken the canoe level 2 course with Kanoe People in the summer of 2017. I was camp coordinator for Equinox Adventures.
With Equinox I led several multi day canoe and camping trips on the Takhini River. I have
completed many multi day hiking trips throughout the years including the west coast trail, The Chilkoot trail, The Hilary trail in New Zealand, as well a several overnight scrambles in the rockies. I am a Paramedic employed with Yukon EMS in whitehorse, an Advanced Wilderness first aider, and an avid mountaineer.
Our goal is to challenge ourselves, achieve personal growth and see Yukon from a whole new perspective.

I'm both incredibly excited and very nervous about competing in the YRQ and sharing the adventure with a bunch of other dedicated paddlers. I've followed it every year that SUPs have been allowed to race and have been left in awe at the stories I've heard from athletes such as Bart de Zwart and Lina Augaitis. I fell in love with the 11 City Tour because it's such a long, challenging race, and not just physically but also mentally. I think these "ultra" races are an incredible way to not only explore some beautiful parts of the world but also dive deep into your own mind and find out what you're made of. I don't expect to paddle fast but I am very determined to reach Dawson and enjoy one of those infamous "Sourtoe" cocktails!!
